Understand how the test is marked.
Being aware of the marking criteria will allow you to give the examiner exactly what they need.
(Para 1) Paraphrase the question.
It is best to paraphrase the question in the first paragraph. You can do this by using synonyms.
(Para 2) Write the overview.
To write your overview, pick 3 or 4 of the main features and write about them generally, without referencing any data.
(Para 3, 4) Support the main features.
In a new paragraph, support the key features with the data in the information given to you.
Check your work.
Check spelling and punctuation
Check verb tenses. Are they the correct tense?
Check accuracy of the data used.
Check vocabulary. Is there any repetition we could remove with synonyms?
Check paragraphing.
Check word limit. Over 150?
Not knowing which information to include in your answer.
Being unaware of what the examiner expects.
Including opinion and drawing conclusions.
Not using an appropriate structure.
Not using appropriate grammar for describing data, trends and making comparisons.
Not using a wide variety of appropriate vocabulary.
Failing to write an effective overview.
Copying words and phrases from the question.
Failing to support descriptions, trends, and comparisons with accurate data.
Writing one long paragraph.

Is the overview clear and effective?
Show how you identify the most important information, trends, comparisons from the graph or chart.
Did you only discuss the information mentioned in the question?
Should NOT give any opinion, introduce your own knowledge, and analyze the data.
Did you cover the key feature?
Recognize and Relay the most important features.
Did you use data accurately and appropriately?
Make sure your included information is factually accurate.
You will get a higher score if you:
Select the main/key features of the graph, chart, map or process.
Write a clear overview that includes the main/key features (main trends, differences, stages etc.) of the graph, chart, map or process.
Support them with accurate detail.
Write at least 150 words.
(2) Coherence and Cohesion: Coherence ==> ability to connect your main ideas together; Cohesion ==> ability to connect ideas at sentence and paragraph level.
Is the report organized well and easy to read?
Make the examiner easily read and understand.
The report is clearly paragraphed and the organization is structured.
Are any Cohesive devices appropriate and accurate?
Cohesive devices (or linking words) are utilized naturally.
Using in an appropriate context and conveying with accurate spelling. grammar, and punctuation
Did you reference effectively throughout my report?
It must be clear when mentioning the data and categories mentioned in the question.
You will get a higher score if you:
Use a range of linking words when appropriate.
Use linking words accurately.
Do not over-use linking words.
(3) Lexical Resource: ==> ability to use vocabulary both accurately and appropriately.
Is the range of vocabulary wide enough to complete the task?
Vocabulary is one of the tools to complete the task and report the data clearly.
Did you use accurate vocabulary?
Accurate meaning of vocabulary.
Accurate spelling.
Accurate collocations.
You will get a higher score if you:
Paraphrase the question correctly.
Vary your vocabulary using synonyms.
Avoid vocabulary mistakes.
Spell words correctly.
Use appropriate vocabulary to describe trends, comparisons, stages, changes etc.
(4) Grammatical Range and Accuracy: ==> ability to write sentences with no mistakes and also use a range of grammatical structures.
